The central bank slashed its overnight rate by 25 basis points to 4.25 per cent on Wednesday. For every decrease of that size, a homeowner with a variable-rate mortgage can expect to pay about $15 less in monthly payments per $100,000 of the total mortgage value. Fixed-rate mortgage holders will not see any mortgage rate decreases until renewal.

It’s a good time to be in the market, as it’s currently more relaxed. Buyers have the opportunity to take their time, consider their options carefully, and complete home inspections. Prices are also lower compared to last year.

However, housing prices are expected to increase by spring next year, which is usually the market’s busiest season, driven by anticipated rate cuts.
